Billund is the home of the LEGO Group, LEGO house and Legoland. I went there as part of the Doist connect 2026.

Stay

I stayed at Hotel Vejlefjord, which is actually in nearby Stouby with the rest of the Doist crew (about 90 people from 40+ countries!). The hotel is incredible! Nice hiking trails, SPA, amazing view of the Fjorde, etc.

Transport

I arrived in the Billund Airport, and first went to Copenhagen. The bus 43 takes you from the Billund airport to the Vejle train station. From there, you can get to Copenhagen.

I had a weird experience with the bus. In theory, you should be able to pay by car and cash, but the driver said it was all out of service and I had to pay using the app. He gave me a small card with QR codes to set it up, but it required a phone number to get the SMS. It was the only way to confirm your identity to the app (🙄), so I couldn't finish the setup and pay for the ride, and I was already inside the bus on my way to Vejle. I tried many things during the trip (even asking a friend to pay for me on their app, thanks Rikke!), but couldn't have the payment locally. The bus driver said it's OK, I didn't have to pay that one anymore since we already arrived.

If you want to get a bus, remember to have the Rejsebillet app installed before if you don't have access to a phone number.

If you're just going to LEGOLAND, it's right next to the airport. I can totally see someone leaving the airport, booking one of the hotels right next to LEGOLAND, and not having to care about transportation at all.

As I was somewhere else, I did most by taxi or walking.

Places

• LEGO House: A great place to visit, especially if you have kids with you. I didn't go there with my kids, but even seeing random kids being excited playing with LEGO was worth it. They have a lego museum with the story of the LEGO factory and how they arrived in the bricks we know today. I definitely enjoyed it and would visit again if I have the chance. The LEGO store has some LEGO passports you can get, and some stores have stamps to add to your passport. I got one!
• LEGOLAND Billund Resort: The original Legoland park. I didn't spend much time there, as most of my time was dedicated to LEGO house. They have miniatures of famous landmarks all over the world made entirely out of LEGO bricks. I'm not very into amusement parks, and I skipped the rides.
• Jelling Mounds: A short drive away, these are the Viking burial mounds and the famous Runic Stones, a UNESCO World Heritage site. A great complement to the LEGO history if you are interested in Denmark's ancient past.

Food

Mini chef: If you go to the LEGO House, you should really try the mini chef experience. You build a few blocks to choose your food and it is delivered in the front. The food was nice and the whole experience was great.
