It was a day trip from York on December 16th, 2017. About eight hours in Durham, most of it around the university.

It's a small city and I enjoyed visiting, was one of the few cities I visited while staying in York for a full month.

Transport

Train from York, roughly an hour each way. From Durham station everything is walkable, though the town is built on hills and the walk down to the river and back up again is steeper than it looks on a map.

Places

• Trevelyan College: One of the Durham University colleges. This is where I spent most of the day.
• Chapel of the Holy Cross: The college chapel.
• Durham city centre: The area around Moatside Lane and the market place, between the station and the cathedral.
