I was in Boulder from February 21st to 25th, 2019, coming in from New York and flying back the same way. Went there to attend Hack CU, and most of my days were spent on the University of Colorado campus, with the evenings left for the town.

Stay

I stayed at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Boulder, on Baseline Road. It's away from downtown, closer to the campus side, so getting to Pearl Street means a walk or a short ride. The location worked well for what I was doing, less so if you want to be in the middle of things.

Transport

From Denver airport I took the bus — about 56km straight through to Boulder, which is by far the simplest way in and much cheaper than a car. After that it was walking and the occasional ride.

Boulder walkable enough along the creek path system, and I used it a lot between the hotel, the campus and downtown.

Places

• Pearl Street Mall: The pedestrian street downtown. This is where the shops, the street performers and most of the evening life are. The Pedestrian Shops, Into the Wind (a toy and kite shop) and Cotopaxi are all on it.
• Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art: On 13th Street, right by Pearl Street.
• Chautauqua Park: The trailhead at the base of the Flatirons. Even a short walk up the Chautauqua Trail gets you the view.
• University of Colorado Boulder: I spent two full days on campus for the hackathon
• Boulder Public Library: Main branch, on the creek.

Food

It's been a while since I went there (writing this in 2026), and I can't remember much of the food I ate. Just adding here the places I went to. I don't remember having bad experiences, though 🤷‍♂️

• Mustard's Last Stand: Hot dogs on Broadway, right by Pearl Street.
• Alice and Rose: Café on the Hill.
• Pizza Colore: On Pearl Street.
• Dark Horse: A bar on Baseline Road, close to where I was staying.
• Shawarma City: Quick and cheap, near the campus.
